Do I have prostate cancer?
I’m quite a hypercondriact and think that I have prostate cancer.
I have to go to the toilet about ten, eleven times a day (at an estimate), it takes me a while before the urine starts flowing and even then is stops and starts. Also, usually after taking a dump, my urinary bladder still feels full even though I’ve urinated.
I used to experience quite a bit of back pain, but *knock on wood* that seems to have stopped now.
I used to have HSP, and that interferes with kidneys. Is this the reason? Also, I am quite an anxious person (I take fluoxetine), does this trouble urinating just have to do with a shy bladder?
I’m scared and my parents don’t think that it is anything serious, because I’m far too young (15). Do I have it? I don’t want to go to a doctor and have a camera stuck up my butt. ![]()
Almost certainly not.
The biggest risk factor for prostate cancer is age. Over 80% of men diagnosed with it are over 65 and half of all cases occur in men over 75.
Prostate cancer is so rare in young men that there are no statistics available for the disease incidence in men under 35.
So probably not, eh?
But see a doctor for help with the problems you’re having

Since Yahoo Answers isn’t a medical clinic with cameras to stick up your butt, try going to a real doctor to find out.

Go and talk to your doctor. Screening for PC is with the PSA test which is a simple blood test. The doctor may do a digiital exam (finger up your butt) to see if the Prostate in enlarged. Based on these two tests the doctor will determine if it is Prostate Cancer or another cause. At your age PC is very rare but possible. The cancerous cells of PC feed on testosterone and I doubt you have that much at 15 and taking the meds you are taking. They may also do an ultrasound of your bladder (no pain, only gel on your skin and a piece of metal run over your lower abdomen.
It is more likely it is due to another problem which could be a lot of common conditions. The fluoxetine may also be causing the frequent urination. It is not common but was reported in some cases involving adolescents.
BTW, if a doctor wants to run a camera up your rectum let it happen as he wants to rule out other conditions. IF that happens trust me the camera is the size of a pencil and much thinner than a healthy dump. But for diagnosis of PC a camera is not run up your butt but it is possible for lower GI problems.

You don’t have prostate cancer. There are NO cases of prostate cancer in people your age. You have all the symptoms of a urine infection, which is treated with a course of antibiotic tablets. The pains in your back are likely to be from the infection moving up to your kidneys. Please go and see your doctor – they’ll ask you for a small sample of urine, and it’s HIGHLY UNLIKELY that they’ll attempt any kind of rectal or even personal examination, so don’t let that put you off. Please do go – if the infection gets a grip of your kidneys it can be really painful, and yet it’s so easy to fix!
