Prostate: PSA reading from blood test of 40. Prognosis?
Male. 54 years of age. Showing signs of some sort of infection in the urinary area. Usual prostate symptoms. No cut and pastes thank you, I can do that myself. Personal experiences preferred and options.
A PSA above 10 increases your chance of cancer greatly. You already know your level,so I’m sure that your doctor has explained the prognosis and treatment. If not, I personally would find another doctor.
Your level is very high and you need to be treated at once.

After a PSA, your doctor should discuss options with you. The PSA is simply and indicator; it doesn’t definitely identify cancer. And in any case, there are various types of prostate cancer; some slow growing, some fast. Some metastasize (spread to other organs) and some don’t. The best indicator is how differentiated the cancer cells are.
To answer these questions – is it cancer, and what type? They need to take needle biopsies of the prostate.
PSA tests give a high level of false positives; so one test may be meaningless.

I really hope you are not expecting a helpful answer.
You have not even given the units for the number you have thrown in. Is is ng/litre or something else???
Ask the Doctor that is managing you!!
