My husband recently told me for the past year he’s been having trouble peeing – It wouldn’t start when he felt he had to go and once it did begin, it hurt. I asked him hurt how? and he said kind of like peeing razor blades. His dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006, and the doctor instructed my husband to get checked when he turned 30 because this could be hereditary. Also, he’s currently experiencing a lot of pain in his scrotal area – The right side was swollen last night when he got home from work, and he said he felt like he had pulled a groin muscle (was almost limping) – Is it possible it could be cancer? Or are we over paranoid?

NO YOU ARE NOT PARANOID – Has he been to a doctor for a psa and rectal exam. I would think he should. I have had prostate problems since I was 19 and believe me it is not fun. Mainly with pain in his scrotum – he should be examined. If it turns out just prostatitus I can tell you a remedy after some antibiotics that you both can work on or if he has to do like me and take care of it himself and that is to have sex on a regular basis. Same days every week – the medical reason being that the prostate generates fluid to be passed when ejaculation occurs. It builds this fluid supply on a routine basis. If this is not used there is an overabundance so this builds pressure in the prostate causeing swelling. The urethra passes thru the prostate and the flow of urine is affected causeing low flow, not emptying creating the urge to go more. I took control of mine by masturbating the same two days every week (Tuesday & Friday) cause my wife didn’t want sex. Are you gonna tell him this? I hope so cause that hurts like heck. Good luck.

Will I just have to accept this. I do not take painkillers as I am worried about long term effects.

I would go and see your doctor and talk to him/her about your problem before taking any pain killers..as there maybe an under lying problem,they maybe able to give you advice what you should do.I’m not trying to scare you but..you are better to talk with your doctor.

My uncle had prostate cancer. Others here have listed the symptoms, so I won’t repeat them. In my uncle, it was diagnosed as a result of his normal yearly physical.

His doctor told him that prostate cancer is very slow growing, but they could go in and remove it if he wanted. After asking a lot of questions, and the doctor telling him that at his age at the time (in his 70′s) that he would most likely die from heart problems or "natural causes" before he would die of the cancer, he decided not to do anything.

But the doctor was wrong in his case. He died 3 years later, as a result of the cancer.

It did grow slowly at first, but toward the end it went pretty quickly. His last year he began to have the common symptoms of advanced cancer, but by the last couple of months he was in a lot of pain and discomfort. He was in a hospice facility for about a month before his death so they could medicate him enough to relieve the pain.

Although it is considered a slow growing cancer, my personal opinion, after losing 4 family members to cancer (uterine, protstate, leukemia, and 1 unknown because it was so advanced there were tumors everywhere), and 1 who’s currently battling it (liver), is don’t be happy with that answer.

First, if you have not been diagnosed see a doctor ASAP before assuming you have it, and make sure whether or not you do. I say ASAP because every day earlier you catch cancer, the better your chances. If you have already been diagnosed, perhaps obtain a second opinion on whether you should seek treatment now rather than wait. My uncle’s children now say they wish he had gone ahead and had it removed when it was still contained in the prostate – because he might still be alive today.

Urinating too much liquid ("polyurea") needs to be distinguished from the slightly different symptoms of excessively frequent urination, urinary dribbling, or unusual urgency to urinate. Urinating too much fluid or urinating too often can indicate several serious medical conditions. Some possibilities include urinary tract infections, bladder conditions (e.g. interstitial cystitis), or prostate conditions (e.g. BPH). Also possible are metabolic conditions such as Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, or diabetes insipidus. Seek prompt professional medical advice about urination symptoms

These are just a few diseases or infectios that could cause your problems. You did not say if you was drinking water excessively. If so maybe Diabetes Insipidus. Not related to diabetes….

A PSA above 10 increases your chance of cancer greatly. You already know your level,so I’m sure that your doctor has explained the prognosis and treatment. If not, I personally would find another doctor.

Your level is very high and you need to be treated at once.

A lot of it is stress related i think and anxiety over whether or not she is cheating. My prostate is healthy of course, and there is no other explanation. One doctor told me if she is cheating on me, the scent or pheramones of the other male may linger and be present with her causing me to sense the existence of the other male, causing both frequent urination or other psychological effects. If there is no other male present she could be very hormonal herself, menopause, pre-menopause, or I need psychiatric help. My question is, do humans react the same way to the scent of other males as animals do. Do we become more anxious, hypertensive and territorial -like with all the urination thing- seems crazy to me…

first off what ever doctor told you that crock of a story you do not need to go back to him. secondly your frequent urination could be most likely medically speaking, you could have a urinary track infection that you only seem to notice when you are with her and are associating your feelings of anixiety to that situation. however in any case i would seek a physician to get a order to have a urine test performed to rule out and infection, its not your prostate. and the only other likely item would be situational anxiety which would explain the frequent urination with her.

You say it isn’t that frequent ?? but it is obviously enough to concern you . It could be just a chill on your bladder of kidneys . I suggest you give it a week to settle down and if it is still an issue take a sample along to your doctor and ask for it to be tested for infection

See… I’ve got this interesting pain just a tiny bit northward of my groinal parts…. a rather inexplicable and temporary pain, but uncomfortable in an amusing sort of way regardless.

I know my family are rather prone to cancer… my mother’s father and my own father both having died of it… and since one in three people die of cancer at some point, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’d go the same way (unless I voluntarily end myself before that).

I’m just wondering if pains in that region could indicate cancer at all or whether its just something else. It didn’t go away when I went for a p!ss… so its not bladder issues, I imagine…

Oh…. and no… I’m not going to see a doctor.
If it is cancer, I fully intend to just suffer it out to whatever end it may bring.

[Response to first answer]: I could counter your question by asking "Why not bother?" … I just want to know… thats all. I suppose for the same reason you might want to know what your brother’s girlfriend is like, assuming you have a brother with a girlfriend. Its just curiosity… plain and simple.
[Note to Dogzilla]: Pain for the most part is just a random sensation to me. I have been adapting to deconnect it from any emotional triggers… and so I don’t mind it any more. However, it is safe to say that having doctors fiddling with my parts would make me psychologically uncomfortable. As such the physical pain is generally the lesser of two evils (except when its particularly extreme, since the emotion-disconnection process isn’t perfected yet).
One might say I am taking the path to Nihilistic enlightenment….. or resolution of the self.

well, even if you DO see a doctor, it’s not like he can force you to receive treatment. i agree with you on the accidental, futile nature of life, but i figure, if i’m alive now, i might as well enjoy it as much as possible and have as fun and fulfilling a life as possible.

so if i were you, i’d go to the doctor. if it was something easily treatable that wouldn’t infringe on my life (such as a daily pill or something), i’d take the treatment. if i found out it was cancer, i’d just refuse treatment and enjoy the remainder of my life as much as possible.

i’m sure you agree when i say i’d rather have 6 months of good, functional living and then die, as opposed to spending 5 years on chemo, and finally dying miserably.

oh, and to really answer your question, i’m sorry, i have no idea what prostate cancer feels like, though i hear that since it causes your prostate to swell, it usually causes difficulty urinating, very frequent urinating, or painful urinating.
