Is there any symptoms if you have prostate cancer.?

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

It would depend on if the prostate itself is swollen and choking off the urethra (which is one of the same symptoms of benign prostate hypertrophy AKA BPH). Frequent urination or the sensation of needing to go but can’t is quite common. In both cases, the person needs to see a urologist. He most likely will conduct a PSA test, the normal range for that test is 0-4. A digital exam will also help determine if there is any hardening of the prostate indicating a tumor. There is much more involved, however, if you are 50 or over, you should get a PSA test done once a year. My husband was fine last year then this year he had stage 3 prostate cancer that was discovered with the yearly test.

I wish you the best!

What conditions could cause urinary symptoms similar to enlarged prostate in men?

Friday, November 13th, 2009

For years now, I’ve had many of the symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate. Difficulty starting, weak stream, getting up at night, and going frequently. I haven’t experienced any pain associated with this. I recently had a prostate exam and also the blood test for prostate cancer, both of which were negative. My doctor gave me a prescription to knock out any possible bladder infection, but that didn’t change anything. Is there any other condition that could cause these symptoms?

I’m a fit 33 year old, no immediate family history of prostate cancer. I drink about 16 oz of coffee in the morning, and then plenty of tea and water throughout the day. I excercise 5 evenings a week, and drink a moderate amount of water afterwards. I think this may explain the frequency but don’t know about other symptoms.

I’m a nurse. Your muscles are weak in this area, this is the result. I wouldn’t worry but try to drink fluids in moderation. This could also contribute to your problem. Tea and/coffee can make the muscles weak as well. I hope this helps you. Take care and all the best.

who can tell me something about prostate cancer?

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

i have a friend who has something wrong with his prostate ,the doctor told him that he might have prostate cancer , he needs to check further .what are symptoms of prostate cancer ?

The only true symptoms of prostate cancer are and elevated PSA test. An enlarged prostate itself if not always cancer. That could be benign prostatic hypertrophy aka an enlarged prostate. My dad has prostate cancer plus I am a nurse so if you have more questions just ask.

arethere any symptoms of prostate cancer?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Prostate cancer usually does not cause symptoms in its early stages. Most men don’t know they have it until it is found during a regular medical exam. When there are symptoms, they mostly involve having problems with urination. Symptoms may include:

Having difficulty starting your urine stream.
Having a weaker-than-normal urine stream.
Being unable to urinate at all.
Having to urinate often.
Feeling that your bladder is not emptying completely when you urinate.
Having to get up at night to urinate.
Having pain or a burning feeling when you urinate.
Having blood in your urine.
Having a deep pain in your lower back, abdomen, hip, or pelvis.

Can prostate cancer cause your ankles to swell?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

I was looking at the symptoms of prostate cancer and saw that if it has spread that it could cause your legs to swell. Also, can it cause for you not to be able to have an erection, or keep one.

I need serious answers please, this is just ammo for me to get my husband to get to the doctors… Thank you…

I can give you lots of ammo for that. My husband died of prostate cancer in 2007. Prostate cancer may have almost no symptoms at all until it is too late. The most usual symptom is having to get up to pee in the night, but that can also be a symptom of other things. By the time he experienced swelling in his ankles from prostate cancer, it would be very advanced, and he would have many other symptoms.

When prostate cancer spreads, often the first place it is apparent is in the bones. Cancer in the bones is excruciatingly painful. My husband suffered for months because of the cancer that had spread to his spine, and other bones.

Believe me, if he gets prostate cancer, whether or not he gets and maintains an erection will be the least of his worries. Erectile dysfunction is more likely to be a result of prostate cancer surgery than the cancer before it is diagnosed.

Many men avoid the prostate cancer checks because they are afraid of the rectal exam. Ask him if he would prefer a rectal exam that lasts a few seconds or months of having to wear a catheter because the cancer in his prostate has grown so much that he can no longer pass urine. And in any case, the main test for prostate cancer is a blood test, the PSA test.

My husband was a fit, active healthy man, whose only symptom was needing to pee in the night. He was still going up the mast of our sailboat, and also doing the work at the top of the masts of other sailboats for men much younger than him. He jumped from the edge of a canal to a sailboat that was loose in the canal during a hurricane in North Carolina and saved that boat and other boats that were tied in the canal on the night before the cancer was diagnosed. He lived less than 18 months after the diagnosis.

Tell your husband to go get checked. It is not a big deal, and it could be the difference between life and death. Feel free to email me if you need more information.

what medicine to take for bph(Benign prostatic hyperplasia)?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Generally alpha blockers such as doxazosin are used which block the action of alpha receptors and relax the muscle in the prostate and improve symptoms. 5a reductase inhibitors reduce progression. There is also the option of surgery such as the trans urethral resection of prostate (TURP).

what are the early symptoms of prostate cancer?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

There are no early reliable symptoms of prostate cancer. If present, they may mimic an enlarged prostate (aka BPH) or prostatitis.

Remember the definition of symptoms is something the patient complains about, and a sign is something the observer (physician) and identify (prostate nodule or elevated PSA).

Do I have Prostatitis?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Okay I have been highly stressing over this for the past week. I have come a long way from my initial question as to whats wrong with me. To some up I am a body builder. I use all types of supplements, for the past 3 months I was on Testosterone boosters, not to be confused with anabolic steriods. They naturally raise Testosterone levels, then in the past month and a half I got on pro hormone which is basically a naturally occuring compound that converts to a small amount of an anabolic steriod. The entire month and a half I had no symptoms at all. For the end of the cycle I used a "designer anabolic" called dymethazine for about 2 weeks I had no negative side effects only great strenght\size gains. About last Wednesday I noticed that at the end of urinating I had a slight burn only for a second. Then last thursday I began to urinate very frequently and was up almost all night uriniating and it didn’t feel like my bladder was empty. I immediately got off all the supplements and went to get a Prostate Health formula from the vitamin store containing saw palmetto, pygmeium, pumpkin seed extract, etc. So in order to prevent estrogen rebound men take natural testosterone boosters to restart there natural testosterone product called Post cycle therapy. So the only supplements I use are a natural testosterone booster and this prostate health formula. The next day I noticed a slight burn while urinating just one time. My urine was a much darker color. So I took an over the counter UTI test and tested negative. As the past week went on my symptoms started to subside I noticed a little lower back pressure nothing painful. I did a lot of research looking up Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Prostatitis and am wondering what I have. the past week with the exception of last night I slept pretty sound and my urination is strong flowing again. Last night worried me a bit I urinated a lot but I felt relieved every time, a lot of urine came out so its not like it was only dribbling. This morning after sex I noticed my semen was thicker and slightly clumpy. The worst symptoms are gone but I have no insurance can anyone shed some insight please.
Okay Anon, I am aware there are several types of Prostatitis does mine sound like the acute bacterial prostatitis or because mine was flared up from hormonal changes what options do I have?
Well I don’t have insurance or a Job thanks to downsizeing so I’m currently unemployed and very low on money. I know there is a walk in clinic around but I don’t know if they can test me for all the signs being they are a walk in clinic I don’t know what resources they have. The earliest I can go is monday of next week can anyone suggest anything for the frequent urination until I try to see a doctor

It could be a slight case of prostatitis. I recently had similar symptoms. The frequent nightly urination stopped for me, but I still went a lot during the day and my seminal fluids were thick, clumpy, and had a yellowish tint to it. If you think it is starting to get better, give it another week or so. If you still have symptoms make an appointment to see a urologist. He can do some tests to see what the problem was. In my case I had signs of prostatitis and my prostate had some inflammation. He prescribed me some antibiotics and it cleared me right up. hope this helps.

what are the causes and symptoms of prostate cancer?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Prostate cancer is related to heredity, diet, and ethnicity. And sometimes it just happens without any obvious risk factors.

Most commonly, it’s discovered as part of a routine physical exam. In most cases, diagnosis precedes the appearance of any clinical symptoms. Advanced cases of prostate cancer may be accomanied by disruption of urinary or sexual functions. Once the cancer metastasizes, it tends to lodge in bone, especially in the spine and pelvic areas. In the final stages, the cancer weakens bones, causing spontaneous fractures progressing to painful failure of the skeletal system.

i have symptoms of prostate cancer?

i have two symptoms of prostate cancer they are dribbling after peeing and i need to urinate more often but im 16 should i be worried and go to the doctor?

It is beyond unlikely that you have prostate cancer. It’s extremely rare in men under 50, and so rare in young men that there are no statistics available for the disease incidence in men under 35.

Over 80% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer are over 65 and half of all cases occur in men over 75.

what are the symptoms of prostate cancer in the initial and terminal phases?

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

My uncle had prostate cancer. Others here have listed the symptoms, so I won’t repeat them. In my uncle, it was diagnosed as a result of his normal yearly physical.

His doctor told him that prostate cancer is very slow growing, but they could go in and remove it if he wanted. After asking a lot of questions, and the doctor telling him that at his age at the time (in his 70′s) that he would most likely die from heart problems or "natural causes" before he would die of the cancer, he decided not to do anything.

But the doctor was wrong in his case. He died 3 years later, as a result of the cancer.

It did grow slowly at first, but toward the end it went pretty quickly. His last year he began to have the common symptoms of advanced cancer, but by the last couple of months he was in a lot of pain and discomfort. He was in a hospice facility for about a month before his death so they could medicate him enough to relieve the pain.

Although it is considered a slow growing cancer, my personal opinion, after losing 4 family members to cancer (uterine, protstate, leukemia, and 1 unknown because it was so advanced there were tumors everywhere), and 1 who’s currently battling it (liver), is don’t be happy with that answer.

First, if you have not been diagnosed see a doctor ASAP before assuming you have it, and make sure whether or not you do. I say ASAP because every day earlier you catch cancer, the better your chances. If you have already been diagnosed, perhaps obtain a second opinion on whether you should seek treatment now rather than wait. My uncle’s children now say they wish he had gone ahead and had it removed when it was still contained in the prostate – because he might still be alive today.

The very best of luck to you (or whomever is going through this).

None of the above. They may be symptoms of cancer once it spreads from the prostate to other areas. I had no symptoms and prostate cancer was detected as a result of annual physical and blood check for cholesterol. My PSA went from 1.5 to 4.5 in 12 months. Doctor ordered biopsies and cancer was detected in 1 of 12 areas. The Gleason score was 4+4=8 (aggressive tumor) I had the prostate removed a month later. They found cancer in the sections the biopsies missed.
I was 59 when it was removed. With no symptoms.

What’s causing my frequent urination?

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

I have been checked for diabetes and I have no infections of any kind according to blood and urine samples yet I am going very frequently. I don’t have kidney stones either. My doctor says he is not worried about it, but something is causing me to go more than normal. I’m only 32 so prostate should be out of the question. Any suggestions?

Urinating too much liquid ("polyurea") needs to be distinguished from the slightly different symptoms of excessively frequent urination, urinary dribbling, or unusual urgency to urinate. Urinating too much fluid or urinating too often can indicate several serious medical conditions. Some possibilities include urinary tract infections, bladder conditions (e.g. interstitial cystitis), or prostate conditions (e.g. BPH). Also possible are metabolic conditions such as Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, or diabetes insipidus. Seek prompt professional medical advice about urination symptoms

These are just a few diseases or infectios that could cause your problems. You did not say if you was drinking water excessively. If so maybe Diabetes Insipidus. Not related to diabetes….

What are the symptoms of prostate & testicular cancer?

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

and also what is there to look out for and what do ur genitals start to look like. please dont make a joke of this

If you are at an age to be concerned about testicular cancer than you are too young to worry about prostate cancer.

Testicular cancer usually presents with a painless enlarged testicle, which almost always has a lump. It is not a very common cancer. The symptoms for prostate cancer are about the same for BPH and are not usually diagnosed due to symptoms as most men go for their screening exams.

Is it possible for a 19 year old male to have Benign Prostratic hypertrophy?

Prostate problems that cause straining to urinate (every time) and that causes him to sweat from pushing so hard) and frequent urination. He has all the symptoms of it. Stones have been ruled out as well as any type of infection. Thanks for any help.

Yes he will be going to the doctor next week. I just wanted to see what I could find out on here to ease his mind a little.

Anything is possible. But a trip to the urologist will be his best bet to figure it out.

It is possible to get BPH at 21, however frequent urination can be caused by many things including UTI, diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, or simply drinking too much caffeine which is a diuretic. There are other causes to frequent urination as well. If your symptoms don’t improve or get worse within the next few days then you should see your doc.

Do I have bladder cancer?

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Guys I’m soo worried I have bladder cancer. I’ve had some tests done.. no sign of infection. I had an ultrasound and cytology done a couple of months ago and the ultrasound showed what they believe are kidney stones, but these tests aren’t accurate for diagnosing bladder cancer. Anyways I have symptoms that aren’t characteristic of kidney stones sitting in your kidneys. I have pain in my bladder a lot, pain in my bladder when I urinate, blood, frequency and now I have lower back pain. All my symptoms sort of come and go day to day. I’m freaking out I have bladder cancer or some kind of cancer.. maybe prostate or urethral. Can anyone give me any thoughts. I have a ct scan booked for 2 weeks and yes of course I’ve seen doctors.
just turned 26 years old. what a birthday.
been tested for std’s and all kinds of infection. its neither.. just for some extra info

You are absolutely correct when you say that some of these tests are inaccurate. My sister who was 47 was diagnosed with gall stones and it took weeks for her to get the surgery and it was then they discovered she had 3rd stage pancreatic cancer.Do yourself a favour and get that mri sooner rather than later to ensure a correct diagnosis. Hope it all goes well.

What is the symptoms for the prostate cancer?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Hi yahoo answers What is the symptoms for the prostate cancer

Is this a muscle strain or prostate cancer?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

I always curl up near my waist over whatever, and don’t sit up straight.
I’m 13. Also i pee a lot and there is no blood. I have a bladder problem according to my doctor. I found a soar under my P**** but it doesn’t look cancerous. I have pain in my waist and legs, but I think it’s a muscle strain which one is it?

At your age, prostate cancer is highly unlikely. The sore on your penis has nothing to do with prostate cancer, either.

Here’s a list of symptoms that indicate the need for prostate cancer screening:

* A frequent need to urinate, especially at night.
* Difficulty starting or stopping the urinary stream.
* A weak or interrupted urinary stream.
* A painful or burning sensation during urination or ejaculation.
* Blood in urine or semen.

That you have already been diagnosed with a bladder problem, that takes care of the first three symptoms. Since you don’t have pain during urination, or have blood in your urine, prostate cancer looks even less likely.

Does an OBGYN take care of frequent urination symptoms or is that something I should see my doc for?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

I have an OBGYN appt this week. I am having very frequent urination and it could be any one of a number of things including diabetes or a UTI.

Is this in my OBGYNS juristiction or is this more of something for my general doctor.

Are you having burning with this urination? If so then it’s classic UTI. You can start drinking cranberry juice. It raises the pH of your urine and makes it a hostile place for bacteria to live. If you don’t like cranberry juice, they have cranberry pills over the counter at most pharmacies. Also increase the amount of water you drink. It’ll help flush everything out.

With diabetes, not only do you have frequent peeing, but frequent thirst, dizziness, nausea and sometimes vomiting. Cut down on carbs and simple sugars.

The GYN could prescribe something for the UTI. They often do a urine dipstick test (at least mine does) at every annual visit. But to check for diabetes you should go see your primary doctor.

What are the symptoms of prostate cancer ?

Friday, August 21st, 2009

My brother is over the age of 50, making frequent trips to the bathroom during the night? these symptoms may indicate that he has a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate or a cancerous enlargement of the prostate, How to determine , is there any other symptoms?

Most prostate cancers are not symptomatic until they are in later stages, however, when symptoms do develop, they may include frequent trips to the bathroom, increased urinary urgency (meaning the urge comes suddenly and can’t be held very long), erectile difficulties, dribblling after urination, pelvic and/or lower back pain. Some of these symptoms are also the same for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which is the non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. The only way to tell for sure is to have a physical exam (A DRE – doctor inserts lubricated finger in rectum to feel the prostate gland for any abnormalities, humiliating, yes, but it is not that bad and can save your life!!!), blood tests for PSA (prostate specific antigen detected in the blood, and when elevated can suggest the presence of prostate cancer), transrectal ultrasound, and/or biopsy if the other tests are suspicious. As an aside, any man over 40 or with any urinary difficulties should begin prostate cancer screening. When caught early, it is highly curable. When caught too late, it is not. Often when younger men get it, it tends to be more aggressive so get checked!!!!

What things could be a reason for frequent urination?

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I’m a fifteen year old boy, and in the last hour and a half alone, i’ve urinated three times without eating or drinking anything.

I know frequent urination can be a symptom of several diseases, but i don’t have any other symptoms right now.

Any ideas?

Too much salt in your diet can cause fluid retention. Eventually your body had to get rid of it and the only way is either through urination or sweating. I wouldn’t think you have anything to worry about except finding something to do that will take your focus off the fear of some devastating disease.

Did you know that stress or nervousness will make you urinate more?

what are the causes of prostate cancer?what are the signs and symptoms?

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Prostate cancer is a disease in which cancer develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. Cancer occurs when cells of the prostate mutate and begin to multiply out of control. These cells may spread (metastasize) from the prostate to other parts of the body, especially the bones and lymph nodes. Prostate cancer may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, erectile dysfunction and other symptoms.

Symptoms

Early prostate cancer usually causes no symptoms. Often it is diagnosed during the workup for an elevated PSA noticed during a routine checkup. Sometimes, however, prostate cancer does cause symptoms, often similar to those of diseases such as benign prostatic hypertrophy. These include frequent urination, increased urination at night, difficulty starting and maintaining a steady stream of urine, blood in the urine, and painful urination. Prostate cancer may also cause problems with sexual function, such as difficulty achieving erection or painful ejaculation.

Advanced prostate cancer may cause additional symptoms as the disease spreads to other parts of the body. The most common symptom is bone pain, often in the vertebrae (bones of the spine), pelvis or ribs, from cancer which has spread to these bones. Prostate cancer in the spine can also compress the spinal cord, causing leg weakness and urinary and fecal incontinence.
